Time for a Career Change
I started RPGamer because I wanted to keep a site going that I loved. Because of ancient history, we had to expand to the entire RPG genre. It's been a huge learning curve, but now it's time for something new.
I've been exploring working in the gaming industry. I thought about being a full-time journalist, and had a few offers, but to truly excel at it, you have to live in California, and be willing to travel way more than I wanted to. I saw a position for a web developer, but the job listing came and went. I was a bit upset, but I felt it was a long shot.
A week or two later, the job came back and I decided to follow through this time. PAX was that weekend, so when I saw the sign saying they were hiring, I made sure to talk to a recruiter. Seems it was the best decision I've made in a while.
I started my new job as the web developer for WB Games. I'm very excited for this opportunity. I am eager to go to work tomorrow. I don't think I've felt that about a job before.
This does mean that I have to take a step back from RPGamer. I have given the reigns to someone I know will do a good job. It will be a tough time letting go, though. I will just have to work at it. Hopefully WB will keep me busy enough that it happens naturally.
Is it tomorrow yet?
